Kasane is situated in the north-eastern corner of Botswana, where the Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe meet. The area is famous for its large concentration of buffalo and elephant. It is strategically situated at the entrance to the Chobe National Park, only 80km from the famous Victoria Falls.
Close to what is known as Africa’s ‘Four Corners’, Kasane provides a perfect base for tourists travelling between famous Southern African destinations. Kasane is located at the north-eastern boundary of Chobe National Park where access is granted through the Sedudu gate, south of the river. Large dead trees line the Sedudu Valley Road and are known to be popular resting spots for leopards. The flat grassy plains of Sedudu Island attract elephants, hippos and buffaloes. This spot is popular for game-viewing and bird watching.
There are plenty of activities available to tourists in and around the bustling little town of Kasane. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful Chobe River on a sunset cruise on the Kasane rapids or at a picnic site nearby where there is an abundance of birdlife. This area has also become a fishing safari destination with a wide variety of fish species found in the waterways off the Kasane.
Other attractions include the old hollow baobab tree, which served as a local prison for years, and the hot springs natural mineral spa. As there are no boundary fences between the park and the village, game often wanders down the road.
