Deception Valley

Details

Situated on the north eastern side of the Central Game Reserve, the game is plentiful in the first few months of the year. The first flush of green vegetation attracts thousands of springbok, gemsbok and wildebeest, ostrich, giraffe, leopard, lion and cheetah and lots of smaller cats.

Deception Valley, which began to form thousands of years ago, is what is left of a rambling riverbed stretching across the north of the reserve. Now covered with short grass and occasional islands of bushy trees adapted to survive in the dry winters, these trees provide a haven for tired animals which are often seen dozing in their shade.

Deception Valley is named so because those viewing it from a distance mistake it for a huge lake. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of game and a prolific bird life. The area is famous for its brown hyena.
