The Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort, Botswana’s premier golf estate, was voted as “Botswana’s leading resort” in the African leg of the World Travel Awards this year. The tourism industry initiative is held annually. This year, the prestigious event was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Described by the Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars” of the tourism industry, the Awards are voted in by travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organisations across the globe.
The last time the resort won leading Botswana resort was two years ago, and before that, in 2005. In past years, their toughest competition has come from Grand Palm Hotel Casino Resort, who won the same award last year, before that in 2007 and again in 2006.
Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort is situated in Gaborone, 15 kilometers from the city centre. Gaborone, only 15km from the South African border, is a popular starting point for a safari adventure in Botswana, or any adventure in fact! Prime tourism destinations include the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and the Kalahari Game Reserve. Popular safari activities include bird watching, game viewing and exploring the waterways via canoe, mokoro and boat.
Don’t let the city’s reputation as Africa’s fastest growing city fool you. While visitors will definitely be able to enjoy all the benefits of a bustling, cosmopolitan city, Gaborone also offers tourists an opportunity to learn about Botswana’s history and culture. Places of interest in and around Gaborone include the old Village near Tlokweng, the National Museum, David Livingstone’s house at Kolobeng, Camphill charity shop, the craft workshop in Broadhurst, Thamaga Pottery Workshop, Kgale Hill, Oodi Hills and the Oodi Weavers and Mochudi Craft Village.
With its multi-million Clubhouse, international 18-hole golf course, conference and private function packages and grandiose decor, the resort is a tourism magnet. Guests can choose between staying in the estate’s twelve new Self Catering Eagles Nest Golf Villas which overlook the golf course’s beautiful 18th green and eight 3 ¼ bedroom self-catering, fully furnished and spacious units. When guests want to relax and enjoy the gorgeous environment, the Office Bar overlooking the 18th hole and one hectare dam is a popular spot to do so, and for the hungry, the estate’s Drotsky’s Restaurant offers a fine dining experience.
There’s a reason why Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort has received much interest in Botswana as well as in Africa. Bathing in luxury and beauty, the resort offers guests top-class accommodation in one of Africa’s most incredible and diverse countries.
